Michael Nott
Michael Ray Nott is a documentary street photographer based in Nashville, Tennessee, with a fifteen-year practice dedicated to capturing the evolving identity of contemporary urban life. Nott began his artistic career in Austin, Texas, where he studied under the legendary Garry Winogrand, absorbing a philosophy of candid photography that continues to guide his vision today. His prints are held in prominent private collections, represented locally by fine art galleries, and featured across regional exhibitions and public lectures.
His photography explores the dynamic interplay between people and public space, seeking out the visual friction and cultural momentum of a city in motion. Driven by chance encounters and the haphazard energy of urban life, he captures the unscripted collisions of architecture, neon, and human activity within a single frame. Developed naturally through documenting the streets of Nashville, his images serve as an ongoing record of the people, music, and social dynamics of the city.
