John Holmes
John Holmes (b. 1996) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work investigates how technological systems shape alienation and desire. Working across sculpture, installation, video, collage, and performance, he builds experiential environments that treat light, sound, and software as sculptural materials, inviting participants into spaces of play and reflection. His recent work questions what can actually be seen, reached, or understood across the boundary between interiors and exteriors. That tension became Being Perceived (2025), an eight-foot walk-in cube of one-way mirrors commissioned for Artville, Nashville’s Public Arts Festival.
Holmes was a 2026 Emerging Artist Fellow at Buchanan Arts and a recipient of a 2025 Metro Arts Thrive Grant, which funded an interactive media course he taught. His self-organized 2025 solo debut, Material & Immaterial, was followed by exhibitions at COOP Gallery, Buchanan Arts, Global Education Center, and Defy Film Festival. The Nashville Scene named him Best Independent Curator in Best of Nashville 2025; his curatorial projects include Deconstructing the Moving Image at COOP Gallery. He is also the founder of New Media Nashville, an emerging arts organization using experiential art to critically engage with technology.
